Park and Ride
Park and Ride is the most common of the Gatwick Parking Services. There are on-airport park & ride and off-airport park and ride. The Customer drives direct to the car park and transfers to a shuttle. The shuttle may be a large coach or a mini-bus. The transfer times can vary between 30 and 60 minutes depending on the distance from the airport, their check-in procedures and the frequency of their transfers.
Procedure (off airport)
Park your vehicle directly outside the check-in office in allocated areas for arrivals. Check-in at the office and a short wait for the bus or coach. Clearly you have to wait for the bus to fill up but generally the waiting time is no more than 20 minutes. The bus then makes its way to both North and South Terminals so this takes more time depending on which terminal you are flying from.
Off-airport Park & Ride car parks include APH at Copthorne (8 miles), Airparks at Charlwood (5 miles) and Cophall Farm (8 miles). You leave your keys with the operator. On your return from holiday make your way outside to the bus and coach stop. The bus will pick you up within 10 – 20 minutes and you are taken to the car park. You are dropped off at certain drop-off points and you make your way to your car which is made available to you at close allocated bays. Whole process takes about 30 – 60 minutes.
Procedure (on airport)
Drive direct to the car park and park your car in the nearest available space. These car parks are huge so make a note of the zone in which you leave your car. Take your passengers and luggage to the nearest Bus Point and wait for the bus to appear. If its raining you get wet but you get to take your keys with you. The bus ride is short compared to the off-airport operators but still does the round of North and South Terminal.
On your return from holiday make your way outside and wait for the bus at the bus stop. The bus should appear within 5 – 15 minutes and you are taken to the car park and dropped off at the nearest drop-off point to your vehicle. Transfer your luggage and passengers to your car and you are set for the drive home. It should be mentioned here that with these car parks, if you return to find your vehicle damaged then you have no recourse to claim except on your own insurance.
